Addictions Counselor Education Program Certificate
This two-semester Addictions Counselor Education Program Certificate (ACEP) provides treatment professionals — from direct care counselors to program directors — with a focused, skill-building curriculum to promote successful delivery of substance abuse and chemical dependency treatment. ACEP is comprehensive, structured to serve the widest possible audience, and strengthened by the academic community of UMass Boston.
The College of Advancing and Professional Studies of University of Massachusetts Boston offers this program on three separate campus locations as well as a distance learning option providing a fully online program.
The campus-based ACEP Certificate program can be taken in the Metropolitan Boston area at the Boston Harbor campus, in Southern Massachusetts in Brockton and Taunton, and in Metro-West at the Mass Bay Community College facility located in Framingham, and in Western Massachusetts at 1500 Main St, Springfield. All locations are readily accessible by car or public transportation.
The Boston, Springfield and Taunton campuses provide the 2-semester certificate program in a combination of night and weekend classes; Framingham and Brockton have a one-night-per-week intensive format for those that have Saturday commitments.
Distance learning is an exciting alternative to traditional classroom instruction. One of the many advantages of distance learning is the flexibility of the course load. Students are welcome to take as many or few courses as they like, enrolling in the fall or spring semester. Students can schedule their coursework according to their own time constraints. Students may also choose to enroll in a combination of distance learning and face-to-face courses. Another advantage of online learning is that students can share their addictions counseling experiences in a virtual classroom with students from across the United States and from other countries, enriching their learning experience. Students receive continuing education units upon completion of each semester.
