Human Resource Management
The Human Resource function plays an essential and strategic role in today’s organizations. The success of your organization depends largely on the accomplishments of your employees and their commitment to your goals.
This non-credit Human Resource Management course provides an overview of the Human Resource function. The practical topics in this course will enable you to address the issues that a human resource professional actually encounters in organizations of all sizes.
This non-credit course is recommended for general managers and supervisors, new human resource professionals, financial executives responsible for HR, and those interested in expanding and developing practical skills and knowledge in Human Resource Management. What you learn will be valuable at any level of experience.
You’ll also learn from your peers in the classroom, and through the class’ questions of the Instructor. Practical learning and participation is encouraged!
The course offers modules that focus on skills set by professional associations as core requirements or “competencies” for human resource professionals:

- Legal and regulatory environment issues
- Compensation and benefits
- Human resource training and development, and performance management

You will learn how to handle:
- Interviewing, recruiting and Affirmative Action tests
- Legal issues pertinent to the employment process
- Pay program building, pay surveys and other compensation concepts
- Employee benefits
- Performance reviews, job evaluation, and performance management
- Legal issues associated with human resource management
- Employee relations and grievances
- Managing labor relations
- Relationships between human resource and line management
You will also learn about current trends and issues that affect human resource management, such as proposed and actual changes to long-standing HR practices.
When you successfully complete this course, you will receive 3.6 Continuing Education Units (CEUs).

Mr. David J. Wudyka has over 30 years of experience in HR management and consulting roles with leading organizations in health care, manufacturing, assembly, high technology and retail. Mr. Wudyka also has over 30 years of graduate and undergraduate level teaching experience, including five years at the University of Massachusetts Boston, ten years at the U. S. Coast Guard Academy and 28 years at Bryant University. He has been certified multiple times by the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) and the World At Work. He was one of the first 200 people to be certified by the former American Compensation Association (i.e., the World At Work). His engaging style of teaching, laced with humor and pragmatic business stories, has been popular with UMass students in both Boston and Dartmouth.
Mr. Wudyka has a BS in Industrial Engineering from the University of Rhode Island, an MBA in Organization & Management from Syracuse University and he has done post-graduate work at the University of Rhode Island in the field of Management. Mr. Wudyka is the Managing Principal and Consultant of Westminster Associates of Wrentham, MA.
